Private university to break ground on $35M student center
April 19th, 2017Lynn University will hold the ground breaking for its $35 million student center on Thursday, April 20.
The 65,000-square-foot project will be the largest ever undertaken by the non-profit university in Boca Raton. The ceremony will start at 11 a.m. at 3601 N. Military Trail. The event is by invitation only.
Lynn University received a $15 million challenge grant for the project from Christine E. Lynn, who owns a local insurance business. It has named the student center after her.
“Mrs. Lynn is our university’s strongest supporter, through both her leadership as our board of trustees chair and her unparalleled generosity as a donor,” said Lynn President Kevin M. Ross. “We are excited to come together as a campus to thank Mrs. Lynn for her latest gift — the largest gift in our university’s history — as well as the other donors inspired by her giving.”
Serving about 3,000 students, the Christine E. Lynn University Center will include rooms for student organizations, classes and events, conference areas, staff offices, a cafe and dining area, student services, career connections, the Center for Learning Abroad, and a new campus store.
“Our goal in designing the university center is to embrace student-centered activities and drive energy on campus,” said Cliff Bollman, project manager for Gensler, architects of the Lynn University Center. “Small touches, like utilizing daylight design, will help students remain connected with each other, feel connected to campus and be encouraged to get involved.”
Meanwhile, Lynn University expects to complete construction of its new dorms in August.
